Compared to the original starter, Korea’s Next Top Model is producing a lot of successful models. Maybe it’s the smaller scale of the industry as compared to other countries (that has its own NTM) but models who’ve participated in the competition are frequently taking over editorials, runways, campaigns and even music videos and commercials after the season’s end. I can name so many wonderful models like Jin Jung Sun, Park Seul Ki, Kim Jin Kyung, Song Haena, Ko So Hyun, Choi Sora. Already the Season 4 competitor, Hwang Hyun Joo (middle) is modelling for one of five designers of Concept Korea the past two years and recent favourites of the fashion people, KYE.
I’ve watched ANTM before and I know how unrealistic some of the things the competitors are told to do. Though there are some exaggeration as well, many of the missions and photoshoot concepts, etc, in the Korean version are much more of the modelling reality than some dramatic reality show.
They have Korea’s top model Jang Yoon Ju, the best stylist as the mentor, they use the best photographers and collaborations (the recent episode with Queen Lee Hyori’s music video), and judges like Lee Soo Hyuk, editor-in-chief of W Korea, and designer Jung Wook Jun (Juun.J). The show puts a lot of effort into producing the best models. It serves as an important part of not only the development of Korea’s modelling industry but the fashion industry as well.
I’m just waiting patiently for these three: Park Shin Ye, Hwang Hyun Joo, Shin Hyun Ji, to step up as top three.
